Ryan Travis Christian (b.1983, Oakland, CA) is an American Postwar and Contemporary artist based in Chicago, Illinois. He is known for his monochromatic illustrations of anthropomorphic figures in narratives that speak to life’s absurdity. His work tends to reflect on a vast array of topics and imagery; the environment, the world’s economy, violence, gender, and class. Christian received his BFA from Northern Illinois University (DeKalb, Illinois). He has participated in exhibitions at The Hole (New York, NY), the Contemporary Art Museum (Raleigh, NC), Guerrero Gallery (San Francisco, CA), Galerie Julien Cadet (Paris, France), and Cooper Cole (Toronto, Canada), amongst others. His work has been highlighted in prominent publications such as FRIEZE, art ltd, Art Papers, and New American Paintings. Most recently, Ryan Travis Christian’s work has been featured in the 2023 Western Exhibitions Drawing Biennial in Chicago, Illinois.
