Paintings and sculptures by Alexander Calder, KAWS, Robert Indiana, Damien Hirst, Roy Lichtenstein, and more
Ross + Kramer Gallery will present a survey of artworks for Spring 2019, titled CROSSOVER. CROSSOVER explores the works of well known 20th and 21st century artists who, at some point in their careers, crossed over from the world of two dimensional painting to three dimensional sculpture. Ross + Kramer Gallery brings Alexander Calder, KAWS, Robert Indiana, Damien Hirst, Roy Lichtenstein, Yayoi Kusama and George Condo to the same space in a celebration of the intersection of fine art’s two most historic mediums. The works, while numerous enough to fulfill the visitor’s curiosity, are also each individually iconic. Every sculpture and painting in the exhibition has been chosen for its ability to radiate the important characteristics from its respective creator’s oeuvre. Whether Lichtenstein is working in paint or wood, one still recognizes his familiar energy in the Brushstroke series. Similarly, the identities of KAWS’ characters are obvious whether painted into a Calvin Klein ad, encased in a plastic package, on a shaped canvas, or immortalized in bronze. Overall, the aim of this ambitious exhibition is to juxtapose famous paintings and sculptures in order to offer a unique view of the visitor’s favorite artists.
